Cornish born choreographer James Wilton brings his company and latest work Last Man Standing to Pegasus on 17 April.
Our planet is under constant threat from external forces like solar flares or meteors. The thought that everything could end in an instant is compelling and can cause us to reflect on our own purpose and place in the universe. This first full length work by James Wilton Dance explores the desire to survive and the fragility of our existence, the hard-wired human drive to stay alive despite the inevitability of our ultimate conclusion.

Featuring six engaging dancers with exceptional physical skill performing against a soundtrack by American rock band Tool, Last Man Standing explores the fragility of human existence. The dancers use a full arsenal of throws, lifts and slides in a desperate, determined fight to survive.  Breathtaking dance in a fight to the finish from UK choreography’s newest star.

Having been inspired to dance at school, James Wilton went on to join Cornwall Youth Dance, which paved the way for his degree at London Contemporary Dance. Since graduating in 2010 he has been commissioned to choreograph work for dance companies and festivals both here in the UK and internationally.  Following his work to choreograph some of the opening ceremony for the Rugby League World Cup in 2013, James’ latest show is commissioned by Dance City and supported by Arts Council England. The production is touring nationally and internationally in 2014-15.

Becoming renowned for exhilarating choreography, James draws on martial arts, breakdancing and aspects of capoeira to create raw and earthy performances propelled by his trademark soundtrack of heavy/progressive rock, ambient music and textured soundscapes. Last Man Standing explores danger, the fragility of existence and the desire to survive.
